ORIGINAL ART
CARING FOR YOUR NEW PAINTINGYour art purchase has value on several levels, and with proper care, your artwork will last your lifetime and more.
Do not hang any artwork or prints in direct sunlight, as it will cause the colors to fade over time. Do not hang or store art in a damp area like basements or bathrooms where moisture could warp the board or cause mold to form. Avoid excessive heat (like leaving it in the car or by a radiator) because that will cause the board to warp.
Baxa paints on either hardboard (Masonite) or illustration board. Both can warp with heat or water, so use caution. Both are coated with an acrylic base, either gesso or acrylic matte medium that will protect the painting from off gassing and the board from rotting.
Oil paintings are quite durable once dry and varnished, but depending on the thickness of the paint, they can be scratched. Oils are often framed without glass and can be gently dusted with a dry or damp cloth as needed. Framing under glass will protect art the most, but never have glass touching the surface of an oil painting – use double mats or spacers to raise the glass.
GOUACHE PAINTINGS ARE DELICATEGouache paintings are much more delicate, especially since Baxa paints on a slick board. They can easily be scratched or run if splashed with water. You should definitely frame under glass or store in a portfolio.
DRAWINGS AND SKETCHESMost Baxa drawings are india ink, pencil, or marker (some permanent, some not) on bond paper, Bristol board, or illustration board. Drawings with watercolor pencil or that are embellished with gouache can run, so the guidelines above apply. Drawings are durable, but can be smudged, scratched, or bent. Framing under glass or storing in portfolios are good options for protection.
ACID FREE MATERIALSMost modern materials, especially plastics, contain acidic chemicals that off-gas and cause damage. You want to use as many “acid-free” materials around your art as possible. This includes mat boards, paper, storage sleeves, portfolio sleeves, shrink wrap, cases, etc. Buy items that are designed for valuables and look for the terms Acid-Free, Archival or Museum Quality, especially with plastics, like portfolio pages.
FINE ART PRINTS
ABOUT BAXA PRINTSI have switched to using Printful to print and fulfill your print orders. They also handle returns and customer service issues. This affords an opportunity for you to get your art quicker and in a wider variety of surfaces.
Prints ordered from BaxaArt.com ship directly from the printer, so the prints are unsigned. Limited Editions are the only type of print that are pre-signed and numbered. Some artwork does not have the same proportions as the paper sizes available from Printful, so the centered image may have varied border space.
BAXA PRINTS ARE ARCHIVALBaxa uses Epson archival pigmented inks and Epson archival matte paper, rated to last 100+ years. Printful also uses the same.
CARING FOR YOUR PRINTSYou should care for your prints as you would any piece of original art, so read the care guidelines for originals above. It is especially critical with prints that you do not hang them in sunlight and use archival materials.
FRAMED PRINTSFramed prints from Printful are the same as the fine art prints, come in a lightweight frame, with an “acrylite” (plastic) protective sheet, and hanging hardware.
LIMITED EDITION PRINTS
Limited Edition (LE) Prints are a special run of prints with a fixed number of prints in the edition run, as well as several “artist proofs”. When those prints in a particular size, surface, or exclusive release sell out, no more of the same kind will be produced, ever. This creates an inherent value and collectability to these special editions. A certificate of authenticity is issued with each LE print.
INCREMENTAL PRICINGLE prints are pre-signed and numbered by Baxa, and issued in the order they are sold starting with the highest number, counting down to number one. As the run sells out, the price increases, as does the value of your print. You can always email me an inquire where the run number is currently at, but you cannot request a special number.
THE PRINT PROCESS (LEs)Canvas LE prints are created with a process where the canvas is heated, so that the inks set into the pre-coated canvas. It provides more consistent and true color, less damage, and a satin finish with no additional topcoat needed. The materials and inks are archival.
Fine Art LE prints on paper are printed with Epson archival pigmented inks on Epson archival matte paper, rated to last 100+ years.
OPEN EDITION PRINTS
Open Edition (OE) prints have no limit to the amount that can be printed, and often come in a wide range of sizes and formats, and are usually more affordable. Open edition prints ship from Printful and are not signed.
CANVAS PRINTS
Canvas prints are digital prints on coated canvas, stretched over a wood stretcher, giving them the texture and feel of a painting. Printful says they use an acid free, ph neutral, poly cotton canvas. The image is printed on a fade-resistant coating, on 1.5” wood stretchers, with mounting brackets included.
CARING FOR CANVAS PRINTSYou should care for your canvas prints as you would any piece of original art, so read the care guidelines for originals above. It is especially critical with prints that you do not hang them in sunlight and use archival materials.
SCRATCH DANGERWith all canvas prints, the surface can be scratched, especially in the corners where the canvas is pressed against the wood stretchers, even though they often have a protective clear coat. You may choose to frame it under glass for maximum protection, however it’s not necessary. (I prefer the look without glass because it feels more like a painting.)
CLEANING
Because the surface can be delicate, I would recommend using a soft cloth, compressed air, or a super soft brush to dust it if needed. If you bought a Baxa Limited Edition canvas print is issued with a frame, the frame came directly from the manufacturer and was made to order, so it may have slight dust on it from the painting and varnishing process. Just wipe with a soft cloth or brush to dust it.
METAL PRINTS
Baxa “Foil” Metal prints are made by printing on aluminum metal coated with a clear emulsion, allowing the aluminum to show through, giving it the feel of a Magic foil card.
Baxa's printer is excellent, printing on thicker aluminum metal than most, with a high gloss finish. They ship directly from the printer, flat and ready to frame, so they are not signed.
With all metal prints, the surface is pretty durable, but can be scratched, so use caution, and clean with a soft cloth.
ART RELATED MERCH
Baxa’ merchandise items are printed at a print shop, and are very high quality, but they not archival like the Fine Art Prints made with Epson products.
TOKEN CARDSHigh quality token cards, that feel like cards printed by pro game companies. Signed by BAXA.
PLAYMATSOfficial MTG playmats are printed by Ultrapro, 24" x 14" neoprene. Due to the printing process on the fabric on playmats, the images might shift a little dark and loose some detail. I've photographed the actual mats to give you an idea of what they look like, but they actually look MUCH better in person. Playmats signed by Baxa.
ART POSTCARDSHigh quality art postcard with a glossy front and blank back you can write on.
GREETING CARDSHigh quality greeting cards with a glossy front and blank inside, with envelope.
ARTIST PROOFS
Artist Proof cards are premium, collectible versions of the Magic cards we do, with the normal printing on the front, and nothing printed on the back. Only 50 non-foils, and 30 foils exist of each card, and you can only get them the artist. People like to collect them and commission sketches on the back.
SIGNATURESIn the past, there were no foil APs, and I didn’t number the non-foil APs. So older APs come signed in one color (black) for free, or you can upgrade the signature if you like. You can buy a Shadow (gold signature with a black drop shadow) or a Blood Stain (permanent red ink with marker signature).

POLICY ON PRE-SIGNED AND NUMBERED EDITIONSAPs of my newer cards are pre-signed and numbered. I treat these APs like any other limited edition run: as the run sells out, the price increases, as does the value. BAXA keeps #1 for himself. You cannot upgrade the signature on pre-signed AP editions. Each page in the MTG galleries will indicate if the APs are pre-signed, or if you can order and signature upgrade.
IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ!!!- Limit 1 of each card per customer. If your friend wants one, he has to order separately
- You cannot choose your number, higher numbers sold first. APs are sold in the order they are purchased. As they sell out, the prices increase
- No special Signatures. The cards are pre-signed and numbered. No special signature requests
- Absolutely NO Commissions. So sorry, but I AM NOT TAKING ANY SKETCH OR ALTER COMMISSION, holding cards, or putting people on a waiting list.
NON-FOIL AP, Current Block Selling: #50 - #26 = $30 (Next: #25 - #11 = $40, Then #10 - #6 = $60, Then #5 - #2 = $100)
