LICENSING
An artist own various copyrights to his work, granted to him by law; which he can exercise himself, and/or loan out or sell for a fee. Licensing is like “renting” the copyrights to an image for a fee (often a royalty), for an agreed upon length of time, in a certain region.
(For example: You have a t-shirt company and would like to use one of my images on a shirt you will be selling.)
Much of the art on this site is available for licensing, especially original work by Baxa. (Commercial properties like Magic and D&D are not, because Baxa does not own the rights.)
Licensing and copyrights can be confusing, and fees vary, so contact me with any questions.
SECONDARY RIGHTS
Secondary Rights are when an artist grants you the right to use an image on your project, that was previously published on another product.
(For example: I painted a book cover 4 years ago for a fantasy magazine, and you’d like to use that same image on your deckboxes.)
This is a great opportunity to put a high quality piece of art on your product, without paying premium fees for a commissioned illustration and first time rights.
